CLUB SPOTLIGHT – THE CHASE

The Chase Golf Club was formed in 1982 by patrons and golfers based in the Chase Inn, Hillfoot Road as a golfing/social club. The original home course for the Club was Dalmilling but when the Club decided to become affiliated to Scottish Golf our home course was changed to Seafield.

As more members joined, a Constitution, approved by Scottish Golf, laid out the mechanisms by which the Club would be organised. A Committee of 9 members with the Club Captain as figurehead, administers all aspects of business.

The Chase Golf Club later became a full voting member of Scottish Golf as well as being members of the Ayrshire Golf Association.

Membership is open to any adults (male or female) aged 18+, as we are a pub-based Club. We play events throughout the year over Belleisle, Seafield, Dalmilling, Lochgreen, Darley, Fullarton and Girvan golf courses. Our competition days are Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun to maximise the opportunity for members to play.

A weekly, open draw takes place for each event. This open draw ensures that golfers of all abilities have the opportunity to play together, encouraging members to meet one another, rather than form the same playing groups each time.

Events played over Belleisle, Dalmilling, Lochgreen and Darley can be played from either the white or yellow tees with handicaps adjusted accordingly. This is to encourage golfers at all levels to participate on courses which are longer in length than our home course at Seafield.

The Chase Golf Club Scratch Championship has 3 strokeplay qualifying rounds followed by Match play stages. Our Handicap Championship follows the same format but players cannot qualify for both events.

Our Doubles Championship has an unusual format in that pairs are allocated by ballot to ensure the teams are mixed abilities rather than established pairings.

The Chase Captains Day normally takes place at Girvan golf course and is an all-day event with 2 rounds of golf, catering, prize presentations and then a social event in the Chase Inn.

Our 3 Man Team event in late September is an Open event with participants from Prestwick St Nicholas, Ayr Seafield, Prestwick St Cuthberts and Ayr Carrick included in the field.

Two inter Club matches take place between the Chase Golf Club and the Ayr Carrick and Ayr Seafield Golf Clubs. Our Prize Presentation and Annual General Meeting takes place each October.

Fundraising events include a Race Night in the Chase Inn which is open to members and patrons alike as well as our social events after the Captains Day, 3 Man Team event and Inter Club matches. The Club undertake an annual summer outing involving a weekend overnight stay.

The Club Website is www.thechasegolfclub.co.uk and this is updated weekly with competition results, information and events as well as being the platform for our electronic scoring system via our partners MasterScoreboard.co.uk.
