Ayr Courses Winter Maintenance Update

A little later than planned due to the website issues, but here’s the latest update from the Greenkeeping Teams at Belleisle Park and Dalmilling.

BELLEISLE

All planed path re-edging works have been completed, over the coming weeks they will be resurfaced with fresh whin dust and will be compacted using a whacker plate.

We have also been busy with the chainsaw and the pole saw.  A lot of the plantations have been tidied up and limbed up to shoulder height to allow golfers and machinery access in below. We still have some branches to take off the course but ground conditions will dictate when we can get to them.

We have taken away a lot of brambles from along the edge of the ditch on 15. This will be an ongoing project to keep them under control.

We have removed the trees that were on the 11th fairway on replanted them in the area behind the 1st green and 5th tees.  We will seed one of the areas where the trees were but on the other site we have installed a new shallow fairway bunker with a view to realigning the tee shot to make it play as a dogleg again.

We also have also reduced the size of 13th fairway bunker to make it easier to maintain and play out of, this will shortly be turfed and landscaped.

The new drainage system at the 1st on Belleisle has taken much longer to complete than anticipated due to the sheer volume of water flowing into the drainage spurs and causing them to collapse. We aim to be fully completed by the end of this month.

Turf will be arriving shortly to repair some of the badly worn areas on the course and bridge ends.

SEAFIELD

All planed path re-edging works have been completed, over the coming weeks they will be resurfaced with fresh whin dust and will be compacted using a whacker plate. A new path will be installed on the 3rd at this time also.

We have also been busy with the chainsaw and the pole saw on Seafield too.  Most of the plantations have been tidied up and limbed up to shoulder height to allow golfers and machinery access in below.

We have taken away a lot of brambles from along the edge of the ditch to the left of the 14th. This will be an ongoing project to keep them under control.

Due to the issues previously highlighted with the Belleisle Drainage Project, we have been unable to commence the planned drainage work on the 2nd, 3rd and 17th holes, we now plan to use a Verti-Quake to alleviate the compaction in these areas to give the water an easier route downwards and will continue to monitor progress over the coming months.

We have recently returfed the white tee on the 3rd and repaired some of the wear around the back of the yellow tee, we will endeavour to get this tee back into play as soon as possible.

Additional planned works;

We will be repairing some of the worn areas throughout the course when our next delivery of turf is delivered.

Our rough renovation programme will also restart in March aimed at reducing the amount of unwanted grass types to encourage finer fescues and wild flowers to flourish.

Finally, we will be topping up bunkers ahead of the new season starting in April, a total of 58 tonnes of sand will be distributed between the 2 courses.

DALMILLING

All planned path renovations have been completed, with some additional works to the path on the 1st to be completed.

New drainage has been installed at the foot of the 7th white tee on the path from the 6th green. The issue on the 16th has been improved however this is linked to the drainage on the 9th hole and work here is still to be completed.

Improvement works throughout the Clubhouse have been agreed and will hopefully commence ahead of the new season.
