Golf South Ayrshire

The competition is played from specially installed forward junior tees on Troon Fullarton Golf Course with boys and girls playing from the same tees. The emphasis of this competition is participation and as such a goody bag will be given to each competitor rather than having a prize list and only rewarding those who score well.

The scoring for this competition will be strokeplay with a few additional rules:

1. A maximum of 10 strokes will be permitted at any one hole. Once this figure has been exceeded the ball should be picked up.
2. A maximum of 4 putts per green will be permitted.
3. After 3 failed attempts to play from a bunker, the ball may be thrown nearer the hole for no penalty with only the three failed attempts counting.

A trophy will be presented to the lowest score in each age category. The categories will be displayed on the draw sheet.

No player is permitted to have a caddy but parents / guardians are permitted to follow their child round the course but are asked to keep at a distance from their child and not to offer any advice. In order that the children are given guidance on the course, a volunteer from the local golf clubs will accompany each group round to assist with rules, score-card marking and moving to the next tee. The volunteers will be easily identified as they will all wear a high visibility vest.

This competition is intended as an introduction to “open” competitions for children who are at the early stages in golf. It is hoped that those who play will obtain a handicap and will be able to play in the Troon Junior Open next year.

In addition to the golf, a marquee will be behind the eighteenth green where a range of junior golf equipment will be available to purchase.
