As Provost of South Ayrshire Council I am delighted that we continue to support our National Sport by offering first class golf competitions on five of South Ayrshire’s famous first class golf courses. As a golfer myself, I have participated in many competitions and I am truly delighted that South Ayrshire’s golf events are offered at such competitive prices. It’s not too difficult to get folks to play so book early and ensure your tee spot in any or all of these fine events.

This year I am delighted to welcome Bickets of Kilmarnock as major sponsors of Ayr Golf Week. I hope this inaugural year of our partnership is the beginning of many. Played over the championship courses of Ayr Belleisle, Seafield and Dalmilling, Ayr Golf Week, held from 4th – 11th June, is the flagship of South Ayrshire’s Golfing Events Calendar with competitors from all over the United Kingdom, Europe, United States and Canada. The competition is open to any amateur golfer with a handicap from a recognised golf club. The total cost for six rounds of golf is a mere £30. I also welcome Prestwick Driving Range and Golf Shop who this year are sponsoring our opening Competition of the week.

Troon has a reason to celebrate this year – it is the Centenary of Lochgreen Golf Course – the championship Course was opened in 1905 and is used as a practice course for the Open. The two courses, Lochgreen and Darley play host to a similar competition to Ayr Golf Week on the 28th August – 2nd September. Set against a backdrop of Royal Troon, the Firth of Clyde and Arran, these courses enjoy a splendid environment of gorse, heather and broom. The total cost for six rounds of golf is again only £30

The Girvan Golf Classic is the final event of the year and has totally different format - a round on Friday Saturday and Sunday over the scenic links course with Ailsa Craig as a backdrop - lots of prizes and great fun. Three rounds of golf for £15

All three events offer a friendly mix of local club members, golfing tourists and ‘golf-ers on tour’ - The ‘whole’ experience can be enjoyed without creating a ‘hole’ in your pocket. Take it from me, we know golf in South Ayrshire and we invite you to get to know it as well – you won’t regret it,……
