
As the first ever round of The Open Golf Championship was played at Prestwick, Ayrshire almost 150 years ago, who would have thought that it would still stand today as one of the leading events in the world’s sporting calendar.
The competition may have changed over the years but golf continues to grow in popularity and The Open, as it is now known, continues to return to Ayrshire, the home of Open Golf.
Indeed Ayrshire, often referred to as Scotland’s Golf Coast is steeped in golf tradition with many of its clubs and courses having their own significant place in history.
